Montjuic Barcelona, Montjuic Hotels
Montjuic is the name of the district of Barcelona, part of Sants-Monjuic, that is to the West of the old city and borders on the Mediterainian sea. It is named after on of the two hills that over looks Barcelona. At the top of the hill is a castle. There is also a trail that runs down form the castle to sea.
It is a popular area for travelers as there is good choice of Montjuic
hotels available. People choose here because it is quieter than the centre
and can also be cheaper.

In this area there is plenty to see and plenty of places to visit. A tour
of the hill can be invigorating. It takes in the castle with some
fabulous views over the city. You can also incorporate the exotic botanical
gardens
on the way down to the sea.
Things to See and Do
There is a massive park covering a large portion of the district. It houses a stadium and swimming pool where events were held during the Olympics. There is also the Olympic museum here.
Museums in Montjuic Barcelona
Additionally, staying in Montjuic puts you near to a number of museums
and galleries.
- The Catalonian Art Museum houses local art and goes deep into local culture along with it. From the front of the buildins you can see a large fountain at the bottom of the hill. Most nights there is a spectacular light show in the fountain that is well recommended.
- The Joan Miro Surrealist Art Collection has a wonderful collection of the works of Joan Miro within it. The design of the building itself leaves you in no doubt what ever there is inside is very surreal.
- Ethnological Museum of Barcelona has varied collections rich in culture from around the world.
- The Archeological Museum of Catalonia has a good selection of ancient
artifacts from the region including sculpture and rock
art.
Transport
If you don't fancy the walk up and down the hill there are a number of
other options. There is a funicular that will take you to Montjuic
park. From here you can to get to attractions on foot easily.
There is also
a good bus service up the hill and as before, on foot it wont
be so bad. Car parking should not be an issue as the stadium
and swimming pool are
not over used.
