Festivals, events, parades, celebrations and carnivals take place throughout the year here - from Easter to Crosses of May, Corpus Christi and St John's Eve in June, to Virgen del Carmen in July and the Romaneria and Summer Feria in September. October is the time for the Spanish Ballroom Dancing Competition which is keenly followed by Antonio Banderas' parents who won a couple of years ago.

Thursday mornings are dedicated to the market behind the Town Hall where you will find fresh produce, cheeses, hams, cakes, breads, olives, clothing, handicrafts and bric-a-brac. There's a relaxed and easy to get around pedestrianised shopping area on Calle San Miguel - filled with beautiful boutiques, jewellers, lingerie, accessory and shoe shops.

Head along the Marina to find a cafe bar and simply sip coffee and watch the world go by and the fishing boats coming in with their catch. There are six beaches to choose from here and a massive scope of simply walking as far as you like with dramatic rock formations and fabulous views out to see - perfect for photographers.

Indulge in the cuisine - tapas or full menu in one of the many restaurants which of course all serve fresh fish and the local wines - delicious.
