 For those wishing to ski - there is all round ski-ing at the highest regions of the Sierra Nevada and with 250 days of sunshine you can head for one of the many golden sandy beaches and soak up the sun, splash in the sea and generally revive, recharge and relax, mind, body and soul.
Shopping is highly interesting here - apart from all the mainstream shops and department stores you can shop for everything from lace, tableclothes, Spanish Guitars, Moroccan handicrafts made from coloured hardwood and bone, jewellery, arts, crafts, olive soap, herbs and spices. The Albaicin - Arabian Quarter is a rich tapestry of cobbled stones, ancient architecture, monuments and authentic cafes where you can enjoy tapas, wine, Jerez and a chat with the locals.
Reputed to be one of the ten wonders of the world is the Alhambra Palace - an Arabian creation that is meant to depict "heaven on earth" - with gardens of running water. Sultans of the empire that once ruled lived here - in elegant style!
Cartuja is a baroque monastery dating back to the 1500's and has the most beautiful vestry. San Jeronimo is a splendid Renaissance temple built by Diego de Diloe and Florentino, the "Indian" and has an extraordinary altar.
Festivals, fiestas, fireworks, dance, music and processions fill the streets with delight all year round. June is a special time where at the end of the month we celebrate the Festival of the Albaicin.
