Flowers, fountains, sunshine and sea combine with tasty tapas, cool drinks under shady trees and the ancient architecture of this fine city. Plaza de Catalunya is the central square and home to our famous departmental store known as El Corte Ingles where you will find something different on every floor. Cross the road to Las Ramblas and promenade with the cosmopolitan crowd - bird sellers, flower stalls, seating areas for cool drinks and all flanked by shady trees. On the outer edges of the avenue you will find beautiful boutiques, glorious gift shops and jewellers and about half way down the Gothic Quarter - home to the Cathedral with its lush gardens, Kings square, Piccaso's museum and the Bishops Palace.
Las Ramblas has numerous theatres and places of interest but probably the most famous is the Licea Opera House. Close by there is a Tourist Information Office detailing all the main events and sights to see.
Continue down to the port area, cross the boardwalk and you are in Barceloneta - cafes, restaurants, leisurely lunches, sea views and glorious shops with all kinds of treasures on offer. Emax Virtual Reality Cinema can be found here - the first of its kind in Europe.
Other sights that are close by and worth visiting include the Olympic Village and golden sandy beaches, Zoo, park and Museum of Modern Art.
