There is much more to Palma than lively social scene and sunbathing - there is a true history that is still finding its way to the surface - many of the old houses in the old quarter are sitting on Roman ruins and artefacts - some are only buried as far as 1 metre down. From the ancient history to legends and myths there's some rather interesting stories to be heard here. The Dragon that was slain by the Governor of Alcudia - Captain Bartomeu Coch - still has the evidence in the Diocesan Museum where the remains of the poor animal remain - to eat no more men again! Close by is the Cathedral which is a central part of the town - an impressive Gothic building which took some 300 years to complete.
Almudaina Palace and gardens are popular and the Arabian baths. If you fancy a hike of around 3km then go up the mountain to find the Belver Castle - the views from the terraces are spectacular.
For something a little different, collect some goodies from the speciality food stores and the morning markets - cheeses, breads, fruits, olives, wine and water and head up the mountains for the day - you can either take the train or hire a vehicle and simply enjoy the immense nature, plant life and bird life there. Lovely to get in to the shade and enjoy the beauty.
