Situated close to the centre where you can spend time shopping around the Puerta Real, Gran Via de Colon, Reyes Catolicos and Angel Ganivet - you will find an abundance of handicraft shops, antiques, mainstream shops and cafe bars where you can relax and sip a cappuccino whilst watching the world go by.
Be sure to visit the Alhambra - the Arabian Palace that is said to be one of the ten wonders of the world. Beautiful interior and a "heaven on earth" creation that has taken centuries to construct. Home to the Arabian Sultans who discussed, philosophised and kept their many secrets. Opposite is the Albaicin - the old Arabic Quarter - filled with cobbled streets, ancient architecture and many arts and crafts shops as well as hand made jewellery. The unique Granadino pottery is something to acquire with its white background and strong blue shapes - really stunning pieces.
Sacromonte, Flamenco and Gypsies are all typical of this part - the caves of Sacromonte are famous for displays of the Flamenco dances and there are several you can attend.
For gastronomic delights head for the Campo del Principe area where you will find many restaurants serving Andalucian delights such as Habas Fritas con Jamon, Pollo al Ajillo and Tortilla al Sacromonte. Be sure to accompany with the local wines and finish with a Jerez - lovely.
