 A wealth of choices are on your doorstep with the Contemporary Museum next door and within a few minutes walk you can pay tribute to Picasso's work and life - his Foundation and Casa Natal - birth place.
Be sure to visit the Alcazaba on the way up to Castillo del Gibralfaro where you can enjoy splendid views. The Castle was once a lighthouse and built by the Phoenicians and is now surrounded by beautiful pines and eucalyptus trees. Other main sights include the Cathedral which was once a Mosque and is filled with amazing wood carvings, sculptures and art work dating back centuries.
The Market is an interesting and colourful place to head for at the weekends - very well organised and spacious making it a pleasure to mill around and browse at what's on offer. Parks and gardens make for a pleasant change and are filled with exotic flowers and the botanical gardens in La Concepcion.
The social scene here has a rich tapestry - there are always events, processions, fireworks, festivals and street dancing and music going on. Jazz clubs and Flamenco shows where you can relax and be entertained are a regular occurrence here.
