Plaza de Catalunya is home to our famous departmental store known as El Corte Ingles - many levels and different treasures on offer - from fashion to perfume, gifts and toys - something for everyone. Across the road you come to Las Ramblas - the tree lined avenue filled with flowers, bird sellers, tasty tapas, cool cafes serving local drinks in shady seating areas. The outer edges are where you will find beautiful boutiques, glorious jewellers and numerous places of interest. Half way down you come to the Gothic Quarter - home of the Cathedral with its lush gardens filled with palm trees and magnolias, Kings Plaza and Picasso's museum. Meander to the far end of Las Ramblas and you will be greeted by the statue of Christopher Columbus, cross the board walk to another world - exhibition centres, Barceloneta, the Olympic Village and golden sandy beaches.

If you love the Opera then Liceo is on Las Ramblas and there is a very helpful Tourist Information Office that will give you full details of all the shows and theatre taking place.

Good stuff: Excellent facilities; powerful easy to work shower; small but everything that was needed

Bad stuff: Possibly a shower mat for ease of climbing out of the bath/shower for more elderly guests

Overall: There is a small but excellent sitting/lounge area with tea, coffee, wine, savouries, TV and free internet access. We used it every night and found it a great meeting place / social area at end of the day. The welcome drink which we read about from previous reviews was also a lovely touch. An excellent central location within walking distance of many popular areas, adjacent to the airport bus stop, metro and bus stops.
