The Alcazaba sits on top of the hill with its hefty walls and towers dominating over the city and commands magnificent views. Founded during the first half of the 10th century by the Caliph Cordoba - Abd ar-Rahman. Beautiful and amazing.
The Cathedral sits at the heart of the old town and dates back to the 1500's - combining Gothic and Renaissance architecture and has stood the test of time and invasion by pirates of North Africa. Inside you are treated to ribbed ceilings made from Jasper and Marble in Baroque and Neo-classical styles. The stalls are made from Walnut and the Sacristia Mayor displays fine carved stone roof, windows and arches.
There are a few museums to visit giving you a full education and history of the city and exhibiting artefacts that date back to Arabian times.
A good wealth of restaurants that will serve up Gurullos (stew with pasta), Trigo (stew with grains, pork and beans) and Gachas - a hot and spicy clam stew. Try the local cuisine and accompany with a large bottle of red wine!
