El Puerto de Santa Maria Travel Guide

Its located in the most southwesterly coastal point of the Sherry Triangle. The city is less than eight miles away from Jerez Airport and easily reachable off the A4 from Seville. If you're planning on driving however, remember this is somewhere that prides itself on clean surroundings, and as a result the city centre is virtually traffic-free.

El Puerto de Santa Maria Tourism

El Puerto has a beautiful beach (Playa Puntillo), excellent seafood restaurants and a formation of impressive monuments. The San Marcos Castle is the ports most recognisable feature. At both dawn and dusk, its seemingly infinite turret rows and collection of sky-reaching minarets make for an awe-inspiring silhouette above the city.

The Moorish Bullring was built in 1880 by the venerable Thomas Osborne and is still standing. It was designed to seat exactly 12,816 people. This was the actual population of the city back then. It was called the best place for a bullfight in the world by the great matador Joselito.

Osborne himself was a successful wine merchant. The bodega (small Spanish shop) named after him is one of many in El Puerto that offer guided tours and wine tasting sessions.
