This corner of the Almeria province is not only one of the most varied in Andalusia though, it's also one of the most beautiful. From the neighbouring Campo de Dalias (Field of Dahlias) to the Peak of Sabinar that looms over the deserts and forests bedecking the landscape, this is the best nature can do to drag you away from your sunbathing! The beaches here do deserve a special mention however, as Ejido boasts one of the few stretches of virgin coast in the Mediterranean. This includes the tranquil Cerillo and the lengthy Punta Entinas beaches (amongst others), which also double up as valuable havens for rare plant and animal life. Something else to see on the coast is the magnificent Guardias Viejas Castle. Constructed in the 18th century to protect the lands from pirate raids, its interior now features a museum housing military uniforms and other various artefacts of the time. No Costa del Sol experience is complete without a few rounds of golf though, and the palm-laden 18-hole Almerimar course (with added swimming pool and tennis courts) is about as close to the coast as you can get without playing on the beach!
