A town such as Benalmadena becomes popular for obvious reasons: sunny weather, its closeness to Malaga, being at the heart of the Costa del Sol... but as you'll see, the list lengthens as you discover its other qualities. Number one is its award-winning and picturesque marina, which has been named the best in the world on more than one occasion. In fact, many of the attractions here are a result of the resident's embrace of the neighbouring deep blue (or clear blue, to be more precise). These include great family days out at both the Sea Life Centre, with its huge collection of 5,000 different species; as well as the sea lions and penguins you'll find at the Selwo Theme Park. If you want to see other cetaceans in their natural habitat, then you can make use of that beautiful marina and take a boat out to see dolphins swimming in (and leaping out of) the sea. The town is also a culture conscious one, and its international film festival proves that Cannes isn't the only place that can host a glitzy show on the Mediterranean coast. But these are just bonuses, what really matters in these parts are two things - beaches and nightlife - and Benalmadena doesn't disappoint on either front! Its 5.5 mile beach is its prized asset, and the Puerto Marina (the local nightclub complex) stays open till sunrise. If that's not enough there's always the seafront casino, and you can spend any spare hours you may have on the peaceful Torrequebrada Golf Course.
