A short history of Spain

237 BC 218 BC to 201 BC and the Punic Wars are underway. Hannibal now makes
his
mark. Scipio lands in Spain to defeat Hasdrubal. Rome divides the country up
into Hispanis Ulterior and Hispania Citerior.
The Romans in Spain worked their way through the Grecian business foundations
and trade routes. Starting with wars with Carthage in the west. Much later
on we cannot forget America being discovered on 12 October 1492 by the man
everyone knows, Christopher Columbus. One of Spain's most famous people even
if he was not Spanish by birth.
Spain settled in Peru and Mexico in the 1500's AD.
The Spanish Inquisition started in 1478 and went on until 1834.
From 1516 when Charles I of Spain received the crown until 1714, Spain is plunged
into conflict to gain and then loose its empire. 1936 to 1930 General Francisco
Franco leads a military coup to start the Spanish Civil war.
The Spanish get to vote and an 88% majority endorse a parliamentary Monarchy
with a new Constitution.
